Zim fashion designer up for top Vogue award

Nominated for top design award ... Pamela Samasuwo-Nyawiri

UK-BASED Zimbabwean fashion accessory designer, Pamela Samasuwo-Nyawiri, has been nominated for the prestigious Vogue and Muuse Talents Young Vision Accessories Award for ‘The Best Emerging International Fashion Accessories Designer’.
The award recognises the most influential emerging designers in fashion today and celebrates the reputation and development of fashion worldwide.
Pam is the first African to ever go through the nomination process for this award, and has whizzed through 10,000 potential accessory designers to be among the remaining 180 for the 2014 award.
Commenting on the nomination, Pam said she was humbled by the support she has received, adding that her main goal was to elevate the status of the African Fashion Industry.
She said while Africa continued to be used as inspiration by the West, it was still not taken seriously as a credible industry and that it was very frustrating to note that anything to do with fashion in Africa was credited to only a few African countries.

Harare music promoter commits suicide

HARARE music promoter Tawanda Chiranga allegedly took poison and died at Parirenyatwa Hospital, close associates have confirmed.
Chiranga was a close lieutenant to Barbara Chikosi of Red Rose Entertainment
Chikosi said Chiranga owed a workmate at Red Rose only identified as Jean $450 which he lost in a botched motor spares deal.
"I am told Tawanda borrowed money from Jean to purchase minibus spare parts that he had been told would sell double the price. It appears the deal did not materialise and he ended up losing the money," she said.
"No one told me what was happening until last Thursday morning when Jean came to confess but Tawanda had been taken into custody by the police in Glen Norah."
Chikosi said Jean is alleged to be connected with some senior cops who facilitated Chiranga's arrest.
Details are still sketchy on the funeral and burial arrangements but mourners are understood to be gathered at his house at Spaceman in Glen Norah.
Chiranga worked at Red Rose Entertainment for many years and was pivotal in bringing in artistes such as Jamaicans Capleton and Turbulence.

Makosi gets slot on ZTV

Former Big Brother UK contestant Makosi Musambasi  will be on local television for the foreseeable future following the launch of her show “Makosi Today” on ZTV. The debut edition of the show was scheduled for last night to kick off hosting former Big Brother Africa star Munyaradzi Chidzonga.
According to the website for the show the series will showcase current affairs and lifestyle issues which aim to “educate, empower and entertain” viewers

“It is a download of success, prosperity, health, fashion, wealth, vision, direction, ingenuity, creativity, spirituality, peace, resourcefulness and beauty. “Through live interviews, documentaries and light entertainment (Makosi Today) will engage the minds of the youth and make aware the issues Africa faces today,” reads part of the website.

ZTV programmes commissioning official Arnold Shoko confirmed that the show would be screened on the station starting with an interview of Chidzonga, and promised a host of interesting programmes lined up.
“Yes the debut programme will be aired today (yesterday) and it will be like any ordinary talk show which focuses on lifestyle issues.
“However this show is guaranteed to appeal to local audiences because it focuses more on Zimbabwean people and issues, especially the young people of our society,” said Shoko

Stars might return to Big Brother 9?

Every year the show has a theme which then becomes the criteria for choosing house-mates.
Speculation has it that this year’s edition will be dubbed, “All Stars 2”.
This means that the concept will focus on previous unsuccessful contestants and give them a second chance in the game.
The question on most people’s minds then is: who will represent Zimbabwe this time round?
On a Facebook fan page for Big Brother Africa, the administrators have dropped some hints as to what to expect this season.

“It is scheduled to start on August 10th, 2014 and will feature 28 participants from 14 different countries.
“The countries being Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, South Africa,Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe,” reads the post.

The post further highlighted that the house-mates will be picked from Season 6 (Amplified) and Season 8 (The Chase).
“The house-mates for the season would be picked from season 6 Amplified —8 The Chase. The house-mates may include; Angola — Seydou and Neyll, Botswana — Eve and Motamma, Ethiopia — Bimp and Hanni, Ghana — Keitta and Alex, Kenya — Huddah and Malonza, Malawi — Lomwe and Natasha, Namibia — Bernandina and Maria, Nigeria — Chris and Vina, Sierra Leone — Zainab and Bassey, South Africa — Lee and Koketso, Tanzania — Nando and Hilda, Uganda — Denzel and Kyle, Zambia — Tamara and Sulu, Zimbabwe — Hakeem and Maneta.”
As per rules and regulation, if one house-mate has been disqualified he or she is not given a second chance. But on this one, they hinted Maneta might be going back. Hakeem said the information was news to him and no communication has been made to him.

Pokello takes employee to court over shoe theft

Pokello appeared at the court in Harare  to testify against the shop assistant who had allegedly stolen a pair of shoes worth US$60 from her Addicted 2 Shoes store which is based at the Long Cheng Plaza in Belvedere.

Diana Rukezo (35) was reportedly found guilty of the crime and sentenced to 140 hours of community service.

According to the report, the magistrate sentenced Rukezo to eight months in prison, three of which were suspended on condition of good behaviour in the next three years.

The other two months were suspended on condition that she pay back the value of the stolen shoes and serve 140 hours of community service.

In what may be seen as a swipe at her former employee, Pokello posted “Don't abuse a kind heart. U may never be offered one again!” on her twitter account on Wednesday.

The former Big brother Africa contestant herself is a self confessed shoe addict and has according to bulawayo24.com previously boasted of owning over 200 pairs of designer heels and confessed to buying about 7 pairs of shoes per month.

Another Tsvangirai Lover

MDC leader, Morgan Tsvangirai’s ex lover, South African Ms Nosipho Shilubane has penned a book in which she spills the beans about their failed relationship. She says Tsvangirai is a fan of Irish boy-band Westlife, and never travels without his iPod. These are some of the milder claims made about the MDC-T leader and former Prime Minister of Zimbabwe in a book being penned by one of his former lovers.
