Mukanya wishes to return home

Dr Thomas Mapfumo, who is readying for his “home away from home” tour down in South Africa, says he is happy to be performing before familiar faces. He, however, admitted that he was homesick and looked forward to coming home soon.
“It is really a good feeling to be playing closer to home but my wish is to stage shows in Zimbabwe,’’ he said
“I know that our fans at home are missing us but we promise them that we are coming home as soon as everything is in place.’’
Dr Mapfumo, or simply Mukanya to his legion of fans, is scheduled to perform his  first show in Cape Town at Chary’s Kitchen on April 25, before heading to Johannesburg where he will perform at Standard Bank Arena and then wind up his tour with a gig at the border in Mussina on April 27 at Mussina Show Ground.
The gig sponsored by Silent Killer, is a mixture of the young and the old as it features NAMA award winner Jah Prayzah backed by his Third Generation Band, and a South African pop group Uhuru.
According to the Blacks Unlimited publicist Blessing Vava, the band has been conducting rehearsals for almost four days a week and all the members were raring to go.
“Fans should come in their numbers and witness that Mukanya, with age has matured like wine and is still the best. The playlist will be a mixture of the yesteryear hits and new material.
“We will also take this opportunity to sample tracks from our forthcoming album ‘Dangerzone’ to be released later this year.  However, our baby CD titled ‘Music’ containing two singles taken from the album ‘Dangerzone’ will also be on sale together with other merchandise from Mukanya,” Vava said.
The musician will be touring with his full band the Blacks Unlimited an outfit with decades of experience in the music industry.
